Join staff from the Texas Education Agency for updates about the planned rewrite of secondary career and technical TEKS and the implementation of House Bill 3485, career and technical accountability, Perkins IV and the State Plan for Career and Technical Education, PEIMS and the Texas Records Exchange. Presenters will discuss a new leadership grant addressing the Perkins IV requirement for implementing Programs of Study and creating an alignment process between secondary and post-secondary career and technical education. This project, under North Lake College's leadership, will develop model programs of study based on the Department of Education's 16 career clusters.

Recent draft reports Texas College Readiness Standards and the Report of the Commission for a College Ready Texas have been released and will inform policy decisions regarding education. End of Course exams will soon replace TAKS tests and will include college readiness standards. The work of the state P-16 Council has been ongoing and career and technical education is about to experience a rewrite that will increase academic rigor and update industry skill standards in the curriculum. What is next Texas education and how do these initiatives tie together to lead Texas into economic competitiveness? These dynamic state leaders joins the conference to share a vision for the next stage of education.

Commissioner Ron Lehman joins the conference as a member of the Governor's new Council on Economic Competitiveness to talk about the charter of the council and how it will play a role in education reform for Texas.
