CTE Program Management Training - 2 Part Series

This eight hour intensive training session is designed and delivered by experienced CTE professionals throughout the state. This session is recommended for those responsible for managing CTE programs at the district level and providing students with college and career counseling services. Eight hours CPE credit, breakfast, lunch and extensive resource materials are included. The morning session includes administrative topics relevant to administrators and counselors. Afternoon sessions offer focused instruction in breakouts for adminstrions and counseling.

Important Notes:

  • Registration for Part 1(January 29- Austin, TX) did not include registration for Part 2.
  • Attendance at Part 1 is not required to attend Part 2.

This comprehensive workshop provides new teachers with resources and training needed to teach Health Science Technology. Topics include the following: Overview of Health Science, Health Science Terminology, Classroom Management, Teaching Strategies and Learning Styles, Introduction to THOA and HOSA, Classroom and Administrative Responsibilities, Turning Lesson Plans into Activities, Curriculum Materials and Resources, Student Certification Programs and Technology Training.

Certification and Training for CC/CI Teachers

1:30pm - 3:30pm

This session provides certification by TEA for current Career Investigation, grades 7-8, or Career Connections Courses, grades 9-10, teachers. CC/CI courses are designed to provide students with the ability to make informed decisions concerning the world of work and how it relates to the world of learning. Participants will receive updated information about today’s labor market and new lesson plans they can use in their classrooms. Participants will receive TEKS aligned curriculum and supporting materials. This training is open to those who would like to learn more about the labor market and/or would like to receive the materials provided by the First Generation Grant. Tour Houston CTE Programs or The Health Museum

Monday, July 21
11:30am - 5:00pm

Tour Option A: Take a tour of the Museum of Health and Medical Science, a member institution of the world-renowned Texas Medical Center. The museum offers an interactive and entertaining science experience that promotes understanding and appreciation of the human body, mind and spirit and inspires a lifelong commitment to health and wellness.

Tour Option B: Take an engaging tour of the Conrad N. Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management program on the University of Houston campus. Experience classroom, hotel and restaurant preparation and service settings at one of the world’s premier hospitality programs. Interact with faculty and be treated to a demonstration and tasting from students enrolled in the program. Climb aboard the tour bus to travel to the next stop, Hightower High School to tour career academies offering concentrated studies in medical science, engineering and computer media and television production. A brief presentation from Fort Bend ISD administrators and counselors concludes the tour.

Transportation: Buses for both tours depart the Westin Galleria at 11:30am and return at 5:00pm. Lunch is on your own. Shuttle buses will be running pre and post tour to overflow conference hotels.

ATC Training

Part I 8:00am - 12:00pm
Part II 1:00pm - 3:00pm

The Advanced Technical Credit Program, a statewide articulation program, is an opportunity for students interested in technical careers requiring postsecondary education to earn college credit while in high school. Professional development training is required by TEA for all high school teachers who participate in this program. Part I addresses guidelines of the program, including teacher qualifications, the articulation process, course content and expected learner outcomes. Part II provides the opportunity for college-level and high school-level instructors to interact so that high school teachers will be able to enhance instruction to meet college-level instruction. One hour for each course taught is required of high school teachers. A schedule for Parts I and II will be provided during the Part I session.
